快乐王子之二：蓝宝石

The next day the little Swallow has a bath in the river. There is a professor walking over the bridge. “What a strange thing. A swallow in winter.” says the professor. “Tonight I go to Egypt.” says the Swallow. So he visits the public monuments of the city. When the other winter birds see him they are very surprised and say, “What a beautiful bird!” This makes the little Swallow very happy.
第二天，小燕子在河里洗了个澡，这时正好有一位教授从桥上走过，他惊讶地说：“多么奇怪呀，冬天还有燕子！”“今晚我就要飞向埃及了。” 小燕子说。然后，他参观了城市的公众纪念碑。当其它留在这里过冬的鸟儿看到他时，非常惊讶：“多么漂亮的鸟儿！”这让小燕子非常开心。
In the evening the Swallow looks at the Happy Prince and says, “I am going to Egypt.”
晚上，小燕子看着快乐王子，说：“我要去埃及了。”
“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” says the Prince, “can you stay with me another night?”
“燕子，燕子，可爱的小燕了，”王子说，“请你再陪我一个晚上好吗？”
“My friends are waiting for me in Egypt. Tomorrow, they are flying up the river. They are visiting the statue of the god Memnon. At midday the yellow lions go to the water and drink. They have big green eyes and a terrible roar.”
“我的朋友们正在埃及等我。明天，他们就要沿着尼罗河飞往上游。他们正在参观门农神像。正午时分，长着黄毛的狮子们会到尼罗河里饮水，他们有大大的绿色的眼睛，会发出可怕的吼叫。”
“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” says the Prince, “I can see a young man in an attic. He is a writer. He can’t write because he is too cold and hungry.”
“燕子，燕子，可爱的小燕子，”王子说，“我看到阁楼上有个年轻人，他是一个作家。他没法写下去，因为他又冷又饿。”
“Well, I can stay with you another night,” says the Swallow. “Must I take him another ruby?”
“好吧，我再陪你一个晚上吧。”小燕子说。“你要我带给他另外一颗红宝石吗？”
“I haven’t got a ruby,” says the Prince. “I only have my eyes. They are made of blue sapphires. Take one of the sapphires to him. He can sell it and buy food and firewood. Then he can finish his book.”
“我没有红宝石了。”王子说。“我只有我的双眼，它们是蓝宝石做的。带给年轻人一只蓝宝石吧。他可以卖掉它，去买食物和柴火。然后，他就能写完他的书了。”
“Dear Prince,” says the Swallow, “I can’t do that.” The Swallow begins to cry.
“亲爱的王子，”小燕子说，“我不能那样做。”小燕子伤心地哭了。
“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” says the Prince, “Do as I say.”
“燕子，燕子，可爱的小燕子，”王子说，“就照我说的做吧。”
So the swallow takes out of the Prince’s eye and flies to the writer’s attic. When the writer sees the sapphire on his desk, he is very happy. “Now I can finish my book!” says the young man.
于是小燕子衔出了王子的眼睛，飞向作家的阁楼。当作家看到桌上的蓝宝石时，非常开心。“现在我可以完成我的书了！”年轻人说。
The next day the little Swallow flies to the port. He looks at all the ships. In the evening he returns to the Happy Prince.
第二天，小燕子飞向港口。他注视着所有的船只。晚上，他又飞回到快乐王子身边。
“I am here to say good bye,” he says. “I am going to Egypt.”
“我回来跟你道别。”他说。“我要到埃及去了。”
“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” says the Prince. “Can you stay with me another night?”
“燕子，燕子，可爱的小燕子，”王子说。“你能再陪我一个晚上吗？”
“It is winter and it is cold here. In Egypt the sun is warm. My friends are making a nest. Dear Prince, I must leave you. Next spring I can bring you a ruby and a sapphire.”
“冬天了，这里很冷。埃及有和煦的阳光，我的朋友们正在垒窝。亲爱的王子，我必须离开你了。明年春天，我会带给你一颗红宝石和一颗蓝宝石。”
“In the street below,” says the Happy Prince, “there is a little match girl. Look, her matches are falling in a puddle of water! Now she can’t sell them. She is crying. She is poor and has no shoes. Take my other eye and give it to her.”
“在街尾，”快乐王子说，“有一个卖火柴的小女孩。看，她的火柴掉到水坑里了！ 现在，她没法卖掉火柴了。她哭了。她一贫如洗，没有鞋子穿。把我的另一只眼睛带走，送给她吧。”
“I can stay with you another night,” says the Swallow. “But I can’t take out your other eye, because then you can’t see.”
“我可以再陪你一个晚上。”小燕子说。“但我不能拿出你的另一只眼睛，因为那样你就看不见了。”
“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” says the Prince, “Do as I say.”
“燕子，燕子，可爱的小燕子，”王子说，“照我说的做吧。”
So the Swallow takes out the Prince’s other eye. He flies to the little match girl and puts the sapphire in her hand.
于是小燕子衔出了快乐王子另一只蓝宝石做的眼睛。他飞向卖火柴的小女孩，把蓝宝石放在她的手上。
“What a lovely piece of glass!” says the little girl. She laughs and runs home.
“多么好看的一块玻璃！”小女孩说。她笑着跑回了家。
The Swallow returns to the Prince. “You can’t see now. I want to stay with you always.”
小燕子回到了快乐王子身边。“你现在看不到了，我要永远和你呆在一起。”
“No, little Swallow,” says the poor Prince. “You must go to Egypt.”
“不，可爱的小燕子，”可怜的王子说。“你必须去埃及。”
“I want to stay with you always.” says the Swallow.
“我要永远陪着你。” 小燕子说。
