论马君武译《哀希腊歌》中的“讹”

摘 要：马君武翻译的《哀希腊歌》是拜伦该诗的第一个全译本，影响深远；但各评论家认为译文“失之粗豪”、“失之讹”、“重达而薄信”。一百年来，译界莫不以此为定评。然而，这些评论不仅属于感性印象，而且是非历史化的抽象批评；其理论前提是原作有一个恒定不变的意义，翻译者必须忠实地再现原作的意义。马君武的“讹”可以分为三类，均是有意识选择的结果，其合理性和有效性，应该由当时的社会文化关系来界定。清末民初翻译的功利性、翻译内涵和外延的泛化、马君武试图表现的政治寄托，他使译诗本土化的努力，以及流行翻译规范要求的归化表现策略等，使以译文中的“讹”成为可以理解和接受的选择。

Rethinking Ma Junwu’s“Errors”in Translating Byron’s“The Isles of Greece”

Abstract: Ma Junwu was the first scholar who translated the whole poem The Isles of Greece into Chinese. His version remains influential, yet it has been criticized time and again for being “rough and crude”, “erroneous” and “more expressive than faithful”. Although these negative assessments have long become part of the conventional wisdom about Ma’s translation, they are both impressionistic and a-historical. Capable of being classified into three categories, Ma Junwu’s “errors” are mostly his conscious choices. These choices are not without their justification when we consider the prevailing social and cultural conditions at the time of his translation. Factors such as the utilitarian nature of translation; the blurring borderline between the original and the translated work; the political aspiration Ma Junwu cherished; his determined effort to relate the poem to local conditions; and the domestication strategy defined by translation norms during that period, have all rendered the decisions he made understandable and acceptable.

关于公示语翻译的几点思考*

摘 要：北京公示语的翻译存在大量的问题，严重影响了作为2008奥运举办城市北京乃至中国的公共形象。本文旨在探讨公示语翻译的特点、功能、风格以及存在的问题，通过大量例句对公示语翻译的错误进行分类，为治理公示语翻译、营造和谐的公共空间提供理论依据。

Translating Public Signs: Some Observations

Abstract: Among the problems still to be tackled by Beijing as the host city of 2008 Olympic Games, inadequate translation of public signs stands out as an especially serious one. This article provides a theoretical framework for dealing with the problem by doing two things: 1. collecting and classifying representative cases of mistaken translations of signs; and 2. offering a detailed account of the characteristics, functions and stylistic conventions of this special genre of translation.

从英语倍数的翻译看中英文思维的差异

摘 要：正确和准确地翻译英语倍数并非易事，特别是如何理解和翻译句型“A is N times greater than B”，一直存在着很大的争议和不同见解。本文力求通过用英语原文中的具体数值计算来证实和说明这一句型，并通过对这一句型的理解和翻译揭示出英文与中文表达中思维方式的差异与不同。

How Translating Expressions of Multiplicity in English Reflects Differences between Chinese-based and English-based Way of Thinking

Abstract: As is testified to by the continuous controversy over how to render the sentence pattern “A is N times greater than B” into Chinese, it is not easy to translate expressions of multiplicity in English correctly. This article takes a close look at a number of real-life cases involving the said pattern by referring to the exact quantitative values each denotes in its context, and argues that the difficulties one encounters in translating the sentence stems from differences in the English-based and the Chinese based way of thinking.
